Great performance of Badminton Albatross in the TOP TTR Tournament in Cartagena

On Saturday, July 9, 2022, at the Wssell de Guimbarda Municipal Sports Pavilion, in the Murcian town of Cartagena, a TOP TTR Tournament was played, scoring for the national Badminton ranking, to which two members of the Sports Club have traveled Badminton Albatros, Marcos Romero and Mateo Higueras, who competed in the Men’s Sub15 Individual category and in the Men’s Doubles category, also in the Sub15 category; the number of athletes decreases a bit in summer, not only in the Albatros, but in all the Clubs in general; but there were our braves defying the high temperatures.

In the Sub15 Men’s Individual modality, both Marcos and Mateo left everything on the track, although they could not pass the group stage, since all the other participants were ahead of them in the national ranking, however they fought for all the points until the end, taking three of the six games played to the third set, with some deciding in favor and others against.

Marcos Romero and Mateo Higueras appeared in the Doubles category, Men’s Sub15, finishing second in their elimination group, after showing their faces at all times, 21-15 and 21-13, for reaching first place in their group, with the ultimately champions of this TOP TTR Tournament, however, the second place in their group carried them to the semifinals, where they fell with dignity, 21-15 and 21-17, thus occupying third place in the Men’s Doubles U15 Tournament.

Another new experience for these two youngsters, having scored quite a few points for the national ranking, which without a doubt, together with their teammates Samuel, Ángel and Jimena who on this occasion could not travel to compete due to the summer dates, will reach heights higher, because we must not forget that for the five of them it is their first year U15, that is, they are the “youngest” of the category.

From the Albatros Badminton Sports Club, it only remains to thank the different entities that continue to support the practice of badminton in Cuenca, such as the Globalcaja Cuenca Foundation, the Cuenca City Council, the Cuenca Provincial Council and the Castilla-La Mancha Community Board, through of its Sports Service in Cuenca.
