Goran Ivanisevic and Djokovic’s chances at US Open 2022

Former Croatian tennis player and current coach of Novak Djokovic, Goran Ivanisevicgranted an interview to Slobodna Dalmacija to analyze all the news that revolves around his player and the chances that he can play in the next US Open 2022.

– Novak Djokovic’s inability to play at the US Open:

“It is a somewhat complicated situation. It is difficult for Novak to be able to play the last Grand Slam of the season. Right now there are more chances that the Umag tournament director will invite me and win the tournament than Novak Djokovic can play the US Open The United States as a country is inflexible to this type of situation. It prohibits unvaccinated people from entering the country. The tournament itself does not pose problems of any kind, but the country’s policy is what rules in this type of situation.”

– The victory of his player in Wimbledon and his problems at the beginning of the year:

“The start of the year was disastrous. The decision of the ATP to remove points at Wimbledon was a totally crazy and wrong idea. Still, I am happy that Djokovic was able to become champion. He showed once again that he is the best player on grass. He needed a victory of this caliber. When things were worse, he managed to find his best tennis to win once again and continue to add to his record of Grand Slam titles”.

– Novak Djokovic’s limit:

“If someone had said ten years ago that Nadal and Djokovic would have surpassed Federer in the number of Grand Slams, they would not have believed it. Before joining Novak’s team, I knew that these two players would manage to overtake the Swiss. It is difficult to know exactly how many Grand Slams will get Nole. At this time he will not play the US Open anymore… In Australia it seems that things have changed and the obligation to be vaccinated has already disappeared… Even so, the government has to forgive him the sentence of three years without to be able to enter the country. That said, I don’t know how many Grand Slams they will end up with”.

– Djokovic’s decision not to get vaccinated:

“I respect and appreciate his decision. He decided to do that and he is not going to change. It was fatal that there were people who claimed that Novak had become the leader of the anti-vaccines. He was not influencing anyone at all. He just did not want to be vaccinated. Respect and I support their decision. We’ve been terrorized by these things for two and a half years. When you’re infected with coronavirus they treat you like you have scabies. They kick you and your whole team out. We felt like we were on the wall of shame… “.
