Goran Dragic, new player of the Chicago Bulls

The Chicago Bulls have acquired the services of Goran Dragic, as reported by Shams Charania, a journalist from The Athletic. The Slovenian will therefore join the Illinois franchise, with whom he has signed a one-year contract in which he will receive a salary of 2.9 million dollars.

Dragic arrives after finishing last year with the Nets, whom he joined after starting the year in Toronto, being traded to the Spurs and agreeing a buyout with them. During his time in Brooklyn, the Slovenian played 16 games in the regular season and four in the playoffs, in which he averaged 7.9 points and 4.1 assists, solid numbers but that prevented him from being the shock player from the bench that the New Yorkers expected and that the base has been in other stages of his career.

Without going any further, Goran was a fundamental piece in the Heat that were finalists of the NBA in 2020, although it is questionable if, at 36 years old, this is a level at which he is capable of playing again. On the Bulls, a team trying to build on last year’s strong showing, he’ll get a chance to try as he serves as a veteran on a roster with plenty of young talent.

On the other hand, this news almost ends the long-standing rumors linking Dragic to the Dallas Mavericks. Apparently, the Texans were interested in adding him to the team, but they have considered that the small forward position is the one with the least coverage and that their efforts should be focused on a player who occupies that position. All in all, the Mavs still have a vacancy in their bases after the departure of Jalen Brunson, a hole that we will see how they try to fill.
