Golden State Warriors reportedly sign Big Man JaMychal Green

The Golden State Warriors will apparently strengthen again. According to consistent media reports, JaMychal Green will join the reigning champion after a buyout at the Oklahoma City Thunder.

This is reported among other things ESPN and The Athletic. Green was sent to Oklahoma City by the Denver Nuggets on draft night in exchange for first-round pick Peyton Watson, and the Thunder also received a future first-round pick (2027).

However, the 32-year-old does not fit into the rebuild of the Thunder, so both sides have now agreed on a buyout. His contract, which actually expires in 2023, would have brought him $ 8.2 million next season, in Golden State he will probably sign at the veteran minimum of $ 2.6 million. It is conceivable that Green will receive the difference in the buyout.

The Warriors have reportedly had their eye on the big man, who averaged 6.4 points and 4.2 rebounds in 67 appearances for Denver last season, 48.6 percent from the field and 26.6 percent from met downtown. However, he is considered to be a much better three-point shooter than these numbers would suggest. Green could help the dubs as a stretch four (career three-pointer rate: 36.6 percent) or appear as a center in small lineups.

Golden State will have to cope with the departures of Gary Payton II, Otto Porter Jr. and Nemanja Bjelica, among others, next season. Payton II and Porter Jr. in particular played important roles in the championship run. The Warriors were able to keep center Kevon Looney and sign Donte DiVincenzo in addition to Green. Golden State has three roster spots remaining.
