Gilberto Cardoso was crowned champion at the 2022 Pan American Judo Open, which took place in Guayaquil, Ecuador, after beating Colombian Arkangel Barbona in the final of the -73 kilogram division, a result that leaves him happy and motivates him to continue. preparing to meet their goals, including qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The judoka from Queretaro attended said competition in Ecuador with the firm conviction of doing a good job, so, after obtaining the gold medal, he said he was happy because it is something he had been working for, however, he said that the level in this Pan American Open was not the best, but it was not easy to get the first place in their division either.

“I’m happy to have won the gold, it’s something I’ve prepared myself and worked for in recent months, it wasn’t easy, although it wasn’t very high level either; however, satisfied with the result”.

Cardoso has very clear goals in mind, which is why he has been concentrated for two months at the National Center for High Performance and Sports Talents (CNAR) of the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (CONADE) together with the Mexican judo team. , because he wants to be in the Central American Games, Pan American Games and the Olympic Games, so he also plans to go to Europe for a while.

“In this Olympic cycle my goal is to qualify for the Central American and Caribbean Games, as well as the Pan American Games, in addition to the fact that I want to win a medal and seek my qualification for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. I have plans to go to Europe to prepare for two months, compete there in qualifying events for the Olympics and return to Pan American Cups that also add points for the ranking”.
