Fight for the bronze for Alvariño and Canales in Oran

The pontés Miguel Alvariño will have today not one, but two shots for the medals in the last day dedicated to archery in the Mediterranean Games that are being played in Oran, Algeria.

The team competition is proving to be the most fruitful for the Spanish recurve bow team and, although unlike the men’s event, in which the classification was for the final, the man from the town and his partner Elia Canales will fight to be in the podium, in his case on the third step. Starting as fourth in the ranking, the national tandem entered the fray in the quarterfinals, being exempt from the first round, a duel in which they defeated the French team in the tiebreaker by a small difference.

Already in the semifinals, however, this throw to break the tie was not so favorable to the interests of Alvariño and Canales. With the score tied at four, Turkey signed 19 points to 17 of the Spaniards, leading the mixed state team to the fight for third position. A duel in which the faces will be seen with Greece, which lost in the semifinals against Italy. Alvariño will thus begin this last day with the men’s final together with Daniel Castro and Pablo Acha, also from Pontevedra, and in just over ten minutes, he will return to the shooting range for his contest in the mixed event.

And if for teams these games are satisfactory results for the locals, in individual a little less. Thus, Alvariño once again finished as the best Spaniard, although he was close to the podium by finishing in fifth position. The man from the town finished his contest in the quarterfinals against the Italian Musolesi, who will play the final against the Turkish Gazoz. For his part, Castro was knocked out of the round of 16, after losing 6-4 to Frenchman Fichet, finishing thirteenth among more than thirty participants in this international competition.
