The Ball Club gymnasium was filled with its own history yesterday afternoon. After 4:00 p.m. and with an important turnout of people including leaders, players and current coaches, old glories of the club, family, friends and relatives, an emotional and massive act was held with tributes and memories to celebrate its 100 years of life.

El Celeste was founded on July 30, 1922, and that is why yesterday was a holiday for the Sarmiento street institution, which brought together nearly 500 people at its basketball court to relive its history. The activity began in the morning, with a floral offering in the municipal cemetery to the missing members of the club.

In the afternoon, the gymnasium dressed for the occasion with light blue and white pennants, balloons, flags and the friselina with the hands of the players received the participants of the act.

The event opened with the parade of all the players of the institution with their respective identification, the flag of ceremony and of the club, which Mario Capristo had the honor to carry, the anthem was sung and the president of the institution had words to the public Angel Antuñano, who received a plaque for his 33 years in office, and the director of Sport Guillermo Orsili who spoke on behalf of the municipality.

Later it was time for tributes and mentions. The oldest member, Cacho Perales, 97, who said he was present, was recognized, as well as member number 1, Carlos Castelli, who also participated.

Among the sports that Celeste has or had, one or more representatives of each activity were called to the front. Jorge Liébana and Alfredo Renteria received for the casino, Raúl Anta for roller hockey, Aldo Aristemuño, Bardelli and the Saconne brothers for bowling, Juan Carlos Jensen for bowling and Jorge O’lery and the Rodríguez brothers for paddle ball.

Basketball was one of the most emotional moments, because Héctor Musi and Jorge Balbuena were present, who were champions in 1958, the club’s first First Division title, and also members of the champion squads of 1975, 1981 and 1982.

For the teams that won titles this year there were also pennants, the U-13 team and the First Women’s team. The current coaches and others who passed through the institution were also highlighted.

Among the special recognitions stood out Juan Carlos Pardo (the gym bears his name), Martín Goizueta (the basketball court), Genaro Lezcano (emblematic coach), the Rodríguez brothers (name of the paddle ball court), Norberto Capristo (Argentine champion with the Federation ), Elvira Rife de Trostrup (forerunner of women’s basketball in the 1950s).

The closing of the day was with a chocolate cake and later there were tournaments of triples and skills and short basketball games between former players, current players and boys. Without a doubt, a very Celeste party.
