Draymond Green wants maximum contract from the Golden State Warriors

Three Golden State Warriors players have contract renewals this offseason, including Draymond Green. However, the forward is reportedly not interested in taking less money.

Like Anthony Slater and Marcus Thompson of The Athletic report, Green believes he has earned a maximum contract. The 32-year-old can step out of his contract next summer and let his $27.6 million player option expire.

Beginning August 3, the Warriors and Green could negotiate an early contract extension, with the Dubs offering a maximum of $138.4 million over an additional four years through 2027.

The report also states that Green would be willing to talk to other teams should Golden State fail to reach an agreement.

Green gets support from Curry, who loudly The Athletic would be “not thrilled” should the Warriors not retain the defensive specialist due to financial constraints. Owner Joe Lacob recently said it would be difficult to keep the full core of the team.

Warriors: Will the team soon cost over $ 550 million?

In addition to Green, the contracts of Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole (Restricted) also expire next summer. Wiggins is considered the most likely candidate to receive a new contract this summer. The Warriors will not be offering the Canadian a maximum contract, with the organization instead recognizing that Wiggins’ contract for 23/24 could start at around 27 million. In the coming year, the former No. 1 pick will get 33.6 million.

It could be a little less for Jordan Poole, here Slater and Thompson named the contracts of Anfernee Simons (4 years, 100 million) and Jalen Brunson (4 years, 104 million) as references. However, it could also be that the guard is backing himself and contesting the season as an expectant free agent.

Should Golden State hold all three and pay around $90 million annually for them, the 2023-24 squad could cost over $550 million – including luxury taxes. However, Lacob had emphasized that they were not even willing to invest over 400 million for the squad.
