Conquers its second flag of the season and consolidates its leadership, while the girls from Orio do the same in the Euskotren League

Donostiarra has taken the Petronor Flag this Sunday in Zierbena for its showcases in an overwhelming way. Oblivious to all the controversy surrounding his possible improper alignment in the Bilbao and San Sebastián regattas, he was favored, it must be said, by a lane that helped much more than the others, especially on the way back. In any case, the trainera wins the second ikurriña of the current campaign and consolidates itself at the head of the Eusko Label Liga. The ‘Torrekua II’ set the best times in the second and third length, while in the first and fourth its times were the second best of the day. Therefore, incontestable victory.

However, after an even start -a second between Hondarribia and Donostiarra first on par, and Urdaibai-, those skippered by Arkaitz Díaz broke up the regatta in the initial stages of the second sector in which they literally flew towards the finish line. The skipper of the ‘Torrekua II’ flooded everything he found in his path and, in a seen and not seen, left the flag visible for sentencing. It was planted in the middle of the regatta with more than three rental boats on the border. In the third sector, those led by Igor Makazaga maintained their cruising speed and, once again as soon as they turned, they widened the gap to place it at times in 20 seconds over the greens.

From behind, Urdaibai suffered greatly on lane four, which, especially in the final stretch, seemed to grab the crews like an octopus. The ‘txos’ finally had to settle for fourth place after being overtaken by the ‘aguiluchos’. Like the Bermeotarras, Zierbena, second in the previous round behind Kaiku and Cabo Cruz who finished last, suffered the hardships of rowing for that fateful mark. Donostiarra now leads Hondarribia by two points in the general classification, while losing five and Orio six. Next week the crews visit the dreaded Bilbao estuary with the Sestao and Santurtzi ikurriñas at stake.

Liga Euskotren

As far as Liga Euskotren is concerned, Orio seems to have put the direct one. Today, those of Patxi Francés have made it clear that there is a step above Arraun Lagunak. The victory of the ‘eagles’ this morning at the Edinor Flag allows them to close a round weekend and consolidate themselves at the top of the table with a two-point advantage over Juan Mari Etxabe’s team, an income that, as the things in pure gold.

Those skippered by Nadeth Agirre again broke the regatta in the first leg. They went out like a rocket and halfway through that sector they already saw their main rival four seconds behind. First psychological blow. Despite the changes –three– the yellow boat worked like a Swiss clock and was planted in the only maneuver of the day two boats ahead. In addition, Arraun Lagunak’s turn was not good –too open– and the Oriotarras took the opportunity to put one more second into their rival. No concessions.

At a pace of 34-35 strokes, Orio remained firm on the return leg and added his fourth ikurriña of the season with more ease than expected, while his main rival in the fight for the crown –Arraun Lagunak– did not finish finding the way to get the gauntlet. Doubts are not good advisers.
