Dominican Republic falls to the United States in the U-20 Concacaf Final

Sedofutbol Sub-20 could not contain the powerful American team and is satisfied with the runner-up, first in its history

The Dominican National Team U-20 fell 6 goals for 0 against their peers from the United States, who won their third consecutive championship in the Concacaf competition.

The United States was forceful and had possession for much of the match creating the clearest opportunities on offense.

From the first minutes of the game, the United States established its dominance in the match, with goalkeeper Omry Bello being the Dominican player who had the most participation for the Caribbean.

At minute 7 ‘of the meeting the Americans had the first clear leaving the defense badly defended in a counterattack, but Bello was able to intervene before a shot from attacker Paxten Aaronson.

Nikolas Tsakiris tried again reaching the border in the 13th minute but a Bello goalkeeper surely kept the ball in the American midfielder’s long-range shot.

At minute 17 of the match the Dominican defense gave way, Jackson Hopkins gave a precise cross down the right wing so that Tyler Wolff scored with a header in front of the Dominican goal.

The match passed without major developments until the 32nd minute, where the Dominicans had their clearest opportunity with a good control of the ball by Ángel Montes de Oca at the edge of the rival area and a shot that goalkeeper Christopher Brady was able to control in the end.

When the Dominican Republic was showing their best football, it was 2-0 for the Americans thanks to an excellent filtered pass from Diego Luna that left Aaronson totally alone in the rival area with the opportunity to position himself and make a powerful shot that he could not stop beautiful.

The third for the United States came with some luck, a mid-range shot by Noah Allen that was deflected by the anomaly of a Dominican defender, ending up in the bottom of the net.

The Dominican Republic made three substitutions at the start of the second half bringing in Adhonys María, Annier Rojas and Alfeni Tamarez. Bryan More, Sebastián Mañón and Miguel Vázquez left the pitch.

In the last 45 minutes, the North Americans decreed the win with goals from Jack Mc Glynn, the second from Aaronson and Tsakiris made it 6-0.

The United States will return to the Olympic Games for the first time since Beijing 2008 and the Dominican Republic will do so for the first time in its history. Both got their place by participating in the final of the U-20 tournament.
