Disastrous start for Tiger Woods at the British Open

Tiger Woods made a disastrous first-round start to the British Open. The American legend, 46, completed two double bogeys on the first nine holes on Thursday. A two-time tournament winner, he had two double bogeys on the third and fourth holes that took him four over par, then a bogey after missing a small putt on the seventh green. There he is with a 41 card at the midpoint (+5).

Already 13 strokes behind leader Cameron Young, Woods needs to make up considerable ground, and was tied for 145th out of 156 golfers halfway through his first round. He will have to climb back into the top 70 by Friday evening to make the cut.

Woods, who made his return to competition in April at the Masters, 14 months after being seriously injured in a car accident, missed the US Open last month to prepare for the British Open.
