DFB-Pokal: Bremer SV has no hot water in the cup – that’s how cold it gets for Schalke | Sports

On Sunday (1.01 p.m., here in live ticker) the Bremer SV welcomes Schalke 04 to the first in the Marschwegstadion in Oldenburg cup round. One thing is clear even before the kick-off: there will be a cold cup shower for the newly promoted Bundesliga team.

Before the Schalke professionals get wet, I, BILD reporter Henrik Hoelzmann (22), tested how cold the shower really gets. A push of the button, the water comes. I hope for warmth – in vain. The thermometer we brought with us provided the proof: the water temperature was only 19 degrees.

Nothing for wimps! Ralf Voigt, sporting director of the BSV, takes it with humor. Voigt on BILD: “Our job is to make it a hot game. Then the cold shower is good too.”

I usually take a much warmer shower. The cold shocked me at first, but it was bearable. One thing is certain: none Schalke pro will freeze…

But what is the reason for the cold shower? Due to the energy crisis, the city of Oldenburg has decided to turn off the hot water supply in all city sports facilities during the summer holidays. The Marschweg Stadium, which was sold out on Sunday with 10,000 spectators, is also affected. The hot water boiler there has not been supplied with gas for three weeks. As the residual heat decreases with each passing day, the water also continues to cool down.
