Barakaldo has started an ambitious project. After the arrival of a group of Biscayan investors, who have boosted the club’s economy, the manufacturing entity has been able to form one of the most renowned squads in the entire Third RFEF. The goal is clear: promotion. “We want to take a step to return Barakaldo to where it historically deserves,” highlights Imanol de la Sota, new coach, to EL CORREO. This Thursday he kicked off his preseason with the presentation to the fans in Lasesarre. They did it with 21 players with a first team record and four other youth players such as Iker Hierro, Igarki Grande, Oier Acedo and Julen Mateos -a 17-year-old soccer player who comes from Gatika in the Division of Honor-.

These young people were not the only novelty on Thursday afternoon. The signing of Markel Artetxe was also made official. A 23-year-old central defender who has played for the last two seasons at CD Vitoria de Tercera RFEF. He accumulates 46 games with the Eibar subsidiary and has even made a pre-season with the first team. In this way, the squad is currently made up of: Jon Tena and Gorka Campo in goal; Iker Pedernales and Iñigo Ariztimuño on the right side; Jonan Obeso, Mikel Castrillejo, Aimar Sagaztibeltza and Markel Artetxe for the center of the defense; left back for Altair Reyes; Bittor Isuskiza, Ekaitz Molina, Julen Huidobro and Iker Montes in midfield; Jon Urkiza, Julen Barrón, Imanol Torre and Endika Buján in bands; Urki Txoperena, Unai Arieta, Iñigo Orozko and Xabi Cortezón on point.

Even so, Imanol de la Sota reveals that “we are waiting to close one more player.” His intention is to have two players per position, despite the fact that many of those mentioned are versatile and can occupy several positions. Based on the team they have formed, the coach is “very happy, a great job has been done from the club.” “A squad according to the objective with competitive players, who come to the project with great enthusiasm, even giving up higher categories,” he adds. His game idea is also clear and ensures that both the dimensions and the role of the fans in Lasesarre will be key in the future of the course. “We are going to look for a Barakaldo who has the initiative both with the ball and without the ball, who is the protagonist playing in the opposite field for as long as possible at very high rates”, he points out.
