Craig Tiley talks about Djokovic’s situation in Australia

One of the men who was at the center of the controversy during the Djokovic case at the beginning of the year was Craig Tiley. Director of Tennis Australia and visible head of the first Grand Slam of the year, the Australian boss was present at the time of setting up the famous independent court that certified the exemption for Novak Djokovic, with the clear desire that the then number one in the world said present in his event. The authorities changed the rules upon the arrival of the Serb, they established themselves as the highest authority on the matter and Craig’s rules remained a dead letter, but what he surely does not want for the next Open the Australia 2022 is to revive something similar with Novak Djokovic.

All this is out of his power, but if Craig had a choice, the answer is clear: the Serbian would be on Australian soil. But it’s not something he decidesOf course, as he admitted in statements to SportKlub, although he stressed that he is in contact with the Serbian team to communicate all the news from the new government. It seems that the new Immigration Minister is leaning towards overturning the veto against the Serb, which would make it easier for him to attend the event in the coming months, and Tiley gave his opinion on the situation.

“I think we are doing the best we can. It is clear that allowing Novak to play the next Australian Open is not my decision, but Nole is always welcome here, and he knows that many people in Australia love to watch him play. Making a decision is something that is up to other people, but there is still a lot of time before the next Australian Open takes place. What I should be doing now is enjoying the title at Wimbledon.”said Tiley bluntly, congratulating the Serbian on his level and marveling at his performances in London. “Novak played at a fantastic level and he totally deserved the win. He played great and I’m happy for him and his team. It’s been a very tough year for him, but it’s practically invincible on Center Court at Wimbledon.

TILEY WORRIED ABOUT NOLE

It won’t be up to Craig to see Nole at Rod Laver, but the tournament director does recognize show interest for the Serb’s situation, admitting that he is in contact with his team representatives and even had a conversation with him after his win at the All England Tennis Club. “I have congratulated everyone for their last two weeks, Novak did a magnificent job”Tiley concluded. It should be remembered that the Serbian’s Grand Slam calendar has a big question mark about him: it is very likely that he will not be able to participate in the US Open 2022, unless there is a change of course in the coming days, while its presence in Australia has gained integers in recent days, but it is still far from official. We will see what happens and how the immediate future of the last Wimbledon champion is drawn.
