Constituency 1 wins SDE Sports Games

With a total of 94 medals (37 gold, 24 silver and 23 bronze), the teams from District 1 were crowned champions of the Third Municipal Sports Games of Santo Domingo Eastthe largest municipal competition held in the Dominican Republic in recent years.

During the closing ceremony, the mayor Manuel Jimenez explained that five thousand athletes from the three constituencies participated in this year’s games, who competed in 25 disciplines, including baseball, basketball, volleyball, softball, vitilla, karate, boxing, athletics, chess, judo, futsal, soccer, dominoes, taekwondo, among others.

“In the end, we all win. It has been a historic day for Santo Domingo Este. Our youth were able to share their best sports and athletic abilities with the city, and at the same time generate unforgettable moments of happiness for all. Our commitment is to prepare ourselves so that the next games are even better”declared the mayor, after delivering the Rotary Cup to the athletes of District 1, together with the Director of Sports, Roberto Neris.

The senator of the Santo Domingo province, Antonio Taveras Guzmán, served as president of the Organizing Committee of the Games.

in the third Games Deportivos de Santo Domingo Este involved 557 coaches from different categories, who were responsible for preparing hundreds of teams, including: 36 baseball, 36 softball, 36 volleyball, 36 basketball, 3 athletics, 8 handball, 3 boxing, 8 soccer, 8 futsal, 3 taekwondo, 24 vitilla, 24 beach volleyball, 3 karate, and others.

The closing ceremony took place on the front esplanade of the Municipal Palace of the City hall Santo Domingo East, with the participation of athletes, coaches, community members, authorities and collaborators of the council.

The games were organized and financed with the City Council’s own resources.
