Commentary on pay in women’s football |

Don’t just clap again!

The Chancellor rushes to London. He wants to be there this Sunday, to experience a turning point live.

July 31st is a historic day for football. Germany is playing against England for the European title. At Wembley Stadium. 90,000 spectators.

In Germany, more people than ever will see a women’s soccer game on TV. 15 million? More?

But what will be after that? What are the consequences of the turning point in German football?

We will make the women much more visible in your BILD am SONNTAG – that starts with the Bundesliga table and also includes the DFB Cup.

The men’s first round of the cup is currently underway. Each of the 64 participants collects almost EUR 210,000 in entry fees from the DFB.

And what does the DFB have for the women’s teams in the first round? I’ll tell you: 3500 euros!

This means that every single men’s team in the DFB Cup conceded almost as much in the first round as all 64 women’s teams combined! In the second round there is 418,494 euros for the men’s teams and 5000 euros for each women’s team.

Isn’t that embarrassing for the DFB? You don’t have to ask for equal pay. But more respect would be nice. Chancellor Scholz should ask DFB President Neumann in the VIP box at Wembley Stadium if they applaud the women.

Applause does not change the era. Just ask the nursing staff!
