The Canadian wheelchair basketball team defeated the United States in the Americas Cup final in Sao Paulo, Brazil on Monday (July 18th). A 76-68 victory to which the Louperivoise Cindy Ouellet contributed strongly with 30 points and 7 assists.
Ouellet led his team in terms of points, but also thanks to his leadership and his involvement in the defensive phases. The 34-year-old also had teammate Kady Dandeneau, the tournament’s leading scorer, who added 21 points and 13 rebounds in the win over rivals USA.
The Canadians finished the tournament with a clean record of 5 wins, no losses. They secured a spot in November’s World Championships in Dubai with a one-sided 100-30 win over Argentina on Sunday.
The women’s wheelchair basketball team also won top honors at the American Cup in 2017.
