Carlos Velasco, former assistant to Reinaldo Rueda, revealed Colombian elimination secrets | Colombia selection

Reinaldo Rueda is in a period of rest but with his phone free in case someone needs it. After the bitter experience of not being able to qualify the Colombian National Team for the World Cup in Qatar, he wants revenge.

But how has he processed that blow? Carlos Eduardo Velasco, former physical trainer, revealed in the Grueso Caliber program more than one secret of what the pain of elimination was

“We owe a sporting result to the country, then we owe nothing to society,” he began by saying, alluding to the adverse climate against them in the country.

“I don’t like to use the word failure because we were brave in taking on the project knowing that we had little margin for error like last time. We have to move forward because we have a lot of people behind us who despite what we couldn’t develop and what we built in 10 months was a lot. We are directly responsible, we must assume responsibility as such, “he said, not wanting to look for more blame.

But one phrase especially caught our attention: “What you can’t develop footballingly, you can’t develop with gossip. Football cannot continue to be built through gossip or accusations. Mistakes and errors were made, but the factor that leaves us out of the World Cup is not having scored a goal in 7 games and that perhaps out of 100 referees, only one did not call Yerry Mina’s goal in the game against Ecuador”, he warned. What gossip? Who spreads them? With what intention? He didn’t make it clear.

For Velasco it is preferable to focus on what they left as a legacy: “We strengthened the internal projects of the FCF from the institutional framework. We set up training control and logistics control platforms. We strengthened A – B – C licenses and development of training for coaches and physical trainers. We placed a granite for the structure of the FCF”, he said.

The former physical trainer told what they are currently up to: “We had a meeting a month and a half ago with Reinaldo Rueda. He is taking a sabbatical and the rest of the group is trying to move on. All this interdisciplinary group continues to work and is up to date on what our profession represents. If he considers that we can be part of his group, then he is welcome, “he concluded.
