Cantù shot: Baldi Rossi arrives

Market

A great Italian center, back from two years at the Reggiana Basketball and in the past at Virtus Bologna

The signature is there and it is heavy: Filippo Baldi Rossi. S.Bernardo Cantù has ensured the performances, for the next two years, of the Italian big-center winger, who has returned from two years at the Reggiana Basketball. But his curriculum is extensive and includes, among others, two seasons with the Virtus Bologna shirt before the Reggio experience.

A real blow, a player with proven experience – he is 30 years old – not only in Serie A, which he has been attending for about ten years, but also in Europe, since he played in EuroCup, before winning with Virtus for three years makes the Basketball Champions League. Last year, with Reggio, he reached the final of the Fiba Europe Cup. And there is also an appearance in the blue jersey – with Sacchetti ct – with about twenty appearances between 2017 and 2020.

Modenese di Vignola, Baldi Rossi is a player who exactly matches the profile sought by the new coach: Baldi Rossi is the classic example of the modern long, double-dimensioned, strong rebounding and very dangerous from three points. A perimeter “4”, with an excellent shot from outside, as evidenced by his career percentages: in Serie A he boasts 37% of achievement, in EuroCup 38% and, in the last season of the Fiba Europe Cup, he even scored with 41.4% from three.

After the recent farewells, Cantù with an unannounced and not even spelled out online blitz has secured the first new face, a player of sure trust and able, in A2, also to shift the balance. An athlete who also goes to flesh out the fundamental “Italian quota” so important in this category: the rules have not changed, only two Americans are allowed – practically impossible to “cut” – and a group of eight Italians. It is clear that they are the real needle of the balance able to determine the more or less positive outcome of a season. Baldi Rossi in A2 is certainly a top name. After leaving the Virtus Bologna youth sector, with which he made his debut in Serie A and of which he was captain in the 2019/20 season, the new long canturino has 267 appearances in Serie A, almost 1500 points and over 800 rebounds. Previously, he won A2 with Trento, in 2016/17: despite injuring himself in the season finale, he also scored the first championship final of his career.
