Canadian Lai triumphs and advances in badminton

Santo Domingo.- Canadian Víctor Lai advanced to the next instance of the XXX Junior Pan American Badminton Championship, which takes place at the Parque del Este Table Tennis Pavilion.

The tournament, which is played in the sub-13, sub-15, sub-17 and sub-19 categories, enters the quarterfinal phase this Wednesday.

The first seed of the sub-19 category was imposed in two sets (21-6, 21-12) to the Brazilian Erick Furuchi.

Lai will face the Guatemalan Ramiro Alonso Espinoza for the search to settle in the semifinal.

In the women’s category, Canadian Jackie Dent surprised favorite Vanessa García, from Mexico, after beating her in three sets (20-22, 21-19, 21-7) to reach the quarterfinals. On her side, the American Emma Wei defeated Jessica Muñiz (21-9, 21-12), while Kavya Krishna defeated the Peruvian Shary Andrade (21-13, 15-21, 21-5).

In men, the Canadian Linden Wang beat (21-15, 21-18) the Peruvian Gonzalo Castillo Salaza, likewise the American Jeffrey Chang beat the Brazilian José Vitor Munhoz (21-4, 21-8).

Likewise, in the under-15 category, the American Shriyans Ankith Bhagavatula (1) and Rylan Tan (2), emerged victorious from their respective commitments to advance to the quarterfinals.
