BWF Men’s Doubles Ranking: Leo/Daniel Up 2 Levels, Marcus/Kevin… Page all

KOMPAS.com – The position of Leo Rolly Carnando/Daniel Marthin has risen two places in the latest update to the men’s doubles BWF rankings, Tuesday (19/7/2022).

On the other hand, Marcus Fernaldi Gideon/Kevin Sanjaya Sukamulja still sit at the top of the BWF rankings despite not taking part in the Southeast Asia tour.

Leo/Daniel’s ranking has gone up two places after winning the Singapore Open 2022 title last weekend.

The Babies, nicknamed Leo/Daniel, won the Singapore Open 2022 after overthrowing their senior, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

The win made Leo/Daniel successfully end the more than four years long wait for their first BWF title.

The success of winning the Singapore Open 2022 title which is a Super 500 level tournament also made Leo/Daniel get 7,355 points.

These additional points have made Leo/Daniel move up to 21st in the latest BWF men’s doubles rankings.

Leo/Daniel moved up the rankings by displacing Ko Sung Hyun/Shin Baek Cheol (South Korea) and Akira Koga/Taichi Sato (Japan).

On the other hand, Fajar/Rian actually managed to win one title and become runner-up twice on the Southeast Asia tour.

The ASEAN Tour includes three tournaments, namely the Malaysia Masters, Malaysia Open and Singapore Open.

Before losing to Leo/Daniel in the final of the Singapore Open, Fajar/Rian first became runners up in the Malaysia Masters and won the Malaysia Open title.

However, the consistency of always qualifying for the finals in the last three tournaments did not make Fajar/Rian move up in the BWF rankings.

FajRi, the nickname for the Fajar/Rian duo, is still stuck in fifth place in the BWF rankings with 86.855 points.

Fajar/Rian are temporarily trailing by 14,813 points from the Tokyo 2020 Olympic gold medalists from Taiwan, Lee Yang/Wang Chi-Lin, who sits in fourth place.

Meanwhile, Marcus/Kevin still sit at the top of the BWF men’s doubles rankings despite their absence from the Southeast Asia tour.

The pair who have the nickname The Minions must be absent because Marcus Gideon is still recovering from an ankle injury.

Looking at the current BWF ranking, Marcus/Kevin must be wary. This is because Marcus/Kevin are only 4,177 points ahead of the Japanese world champions, Takuro Hoki/Yugo Kobayashi.

If they are not careful, Marcus/Kevin could potentially lose the top of the men’s doubles BWF rankings which they have occupied for more than four years or since September 2017.

Here is the BWF men’s doubles ranking based on the latest update, Tuesday (19/7/2022):
