BVB: It also has to do with Auba – for which Adeyemi Edin Terzic wants to ask permission | Sports

At 8:57 p.m., Karim Adeyemi (20) is the last BVB player to trot across the pitch of the arena in Altach (Austria) after the 2-0 defeat against Villarreal.

“Karim, Karim!” roars and shrieks a group of young fans. Posters with his name are lined up next to each other. The young international grins in embarrassment, points to his bare chest and spreads his arms. The jersey the fans were hoping for is already taken.

In Austria, the new Dortmunder Adeyemi is a big star. Reigning top scorer in the Ösi-Liga (19 goals). Now he is a 30 million transfer and a new face at BVB.

“Marco (Reus; editor’s note), who I know from the national team, took me aside and said that I shouldn’t put any pressure on myself and just show what I can do. The quality in this squad and in the league is very, very high,” said Adeyemi when BILD am SONNTAG met him for a chat at the training camp in Bad Ragaz (Switzerland).

As fast as the DFB star himself is, the transfer took place like chewing gum.

Why Dortmund? “Because I listened to my gut feeling. I’ve always followed the club. With players like Marco Reus or Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang before. I believe that my move to Dortmund is a really important and correct one.”

Adeyemi is good at dribbling and a goal threat. Attributes reminiscent of one of his BVB idols from the past: Aubameyang (33). The outgoing Gabonese known for mask and somersault goal celebrations.

“I can do the somersault too!” says Adeyemi and grins. “After my first Champions League goal (in December 2020 at Lok. Moscow; editor’s note) I’ve already scored one, but my coach Jesse Marsch gave me a big one right away. Because I should rather stay on the ground – and the risk of injury is too great. I would have to ask Edin Terzic how he sees it. But basically: why not? It would be boring if everyone cheered at the same time.”

He looks up to Aubameyang and Kylian Mbappé (23): “Orientate – no, recognize their performance – yes. Mbappé is the best one-on-one player on the planet right now. Because of his speed, he is unstoppable. Similar to Aubameyang. I can learn a lot from them. Want to win every one-on-one duel and be dangerous in the crucial areas. But I still have a long way to go. I know that.”

Adeyemi played two friendlies with BVB, two defeats. Adeyemi: “I want to get here first. assert myself. I told you I’ve been following the club since I was a kid. I already identify with BVB.”

On Friday Terzic tested him in a double lead. After the bad diagnosis of Sébastien Haller (28 / testicular tumor), Adeyemi will play an even more important role on the offensive at the start of the season. Haller has already had an operation. The coming days should bring clarity as to how long the striker will be missing from BVB.

Adeyemi became Ösi champion with Salzburg. Multiple times. Title experiences that also make him dream of big things in the German Bundesliga. Would he sign second place behind Bayern? “We want to finish in the top four, that’s always BVB’s goal. But basically you don’t play football to finish second. Therefore: No, why should I do that in advance?”

In 2011, Bayern parted ways with mega talent Adeyemi. Adeyemi has now made it into the Bundesliga via Unterhaching, Liefering and Salzburg and can show Bayern Munich that they made a huge mistake back then…
