1st test, 1st win!
At the premiere of coach Daniel Farke, Gladbach won Friday at third division RW Essen in front of 9390 spectators 4: 2.
Farke let the best eleven play at the beginning (still without the national players): All professionals who diligently collected appearances in the Bundesliga last season – plus Danish new signing Fraulo.
Started well: Thuram scored early to make it 0-1 (11th) after receiving a pass from Netz. After a great pass from Stindl, Thuram was caught in the penalty area by keeper Golz (son of former HSV goalkeeper Richard Golz) – Plea converted the penalty to make it 0:2 (22nd).
After Harenbrock caught keeper Sippel on the wrong foot with a 25-metre shot and reduced the lead to 1:2 (25th), Borussia swam.
Beyer wasted the ball completely unnecessarily in his own penalty area – Sippel prevented Rother from equalizing with a brilliant save (30′). Three minutes later, Harenbrock appeared alone in front of Sippel – the Gladbach keeper also cleaned up this situation superbly.
But Gladbach (still) has his French: flank Plea, header Thuram, the 1: 3 (40th) – the Frenchman shows his old class, was instrumental in all three goals.
At half-time, Farke switched completely and only allowed talented players (led by “Captain” Rocco Reitz) to audition.
Essen first took advantage of it and Engelmann made it 2:3 (49th). An own goal by Sponsel (59th) restored the old distance – and Farke’s first victory was perfect.
