The basketball players of FC Bayern Munich have signed the former German international Elias Harris. The 33-year-old won three championship titles with Brose Bamberg between 2015 and 2017.

Harris signed a two-year contract until 2024, Munich announced. Last season, the power forward played in Spain at Casademont Zaragoza and San-en Neo-Phoenix in Japan. Previously, the native of Rhineland-Palatinate worked for Brose Bamberg (2013 to 2020) and the MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg (2020 to 2021).

“After my international experiences in Spain and Japan, I’m in the starting blocks with a lot of self-confidence and I’m happy to bring this energy to Munich,” said Harris, according to the club’s announcement. “I want to use my experience and skill set to help the team succeed and bring titles and championships to Munich.”

Experienced and versatile

For Harris, the move to Bavaria also means seeing old friends again. The 33-year-old knows both coach Andrea Trinchieri and Bayern pros Andreas Obst and Augustine Rubit from their time together in Bamberg. Munich’s sporting director Daniele Baiesi described the newcomer as an “experienced, versatile big man”.

In 2013, Harris even tried his luck with the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA, but only got two games there. He played 36 international matches for the German national team.
