Basketball: Chile falls to Uruguay, saying goodbye to World Cup qualification

The national basketball team fell to their counterpart from Uruguay 75-65. The result left her reeling in the qualifiers, since it depended on the result between Colombia and Brazil. A triumph of the coffee cast liquidated the national chances of going to the planetary event, which finally happened.

The duel between Chile and the charrúas took place within the framework of the sixth and last date of group B of the Qualifiers. Disputed at the Antel Arena in Montevideo, it was the locals who imposed their terms from the start. The first quarter reflected this, ending with a score of 26-18.

Uphill for the national cast, which had just fallen to Colombia in the middle of the week. In the second half, Manuel Suárez was an outstanding individual in Chile, making the difference on the scoreboard not so wide. At one point, the home team was up twelve points, however, that quarter ended with a score of 41-34.

Honor was not enough. The advantage was more noticeable and the sky-blue rested the last time they left with a wide difference: 63-45. This caused a slack in Uruguay and Chile reacted, being only seven apart at one point in the last quarter. However, that was not enough and the locals maintained their advantage until the closing, ending the duel with a 75-65.

This marker complicated the Selection. After the duel, the eyes went to the confrontation between Brazil and Colombia, on which the national aspirations depended. Of the four in the group, three qualify for the second round, Chile was in third place and a coffee victory would drop it to fourth.

The antecedents indicated that it was an improbable marker, however, Colombia managed to prevail against Brazil. That was an incredible duel, the Colombians were up for almost the entire match, but a Brazilian reaction towards the end stretched it into extra time. In that instance it seemed that Brazil was winning, but Colombia equalized it in the last action. Second extra time and coffee victory by 104-98. Historical marker for them and unthinkable for Chile.

The national defeat was something that could happen, however, the triumph of Colombia was not in anyone’s calculations. In this way, those led by Cristian Santander go down to fourth place in the area, with no chance of accessing the next phase of the qualifiers.
