The grandchildren of the baseball player of the time, Alfonso “La Liebre” López -RIP-, were consecrated as champions within the actions of the first force of the Night Basketball League of the Sports Unit “Prof. Manuel Galindo Higuera.
Under the name Base Ortega, those led by Raúl López, took over the championship of this organization with authority, after defeating the five that, until prior to the commitment for the title, remained the champions of the tournament, the San Juan squad from the river.
It was with a score of 52 units by 40 that the Ortega Base squad snatched the championship from the San Juan squad, in a battle that was attractive, because at all times the players of both squads offered themselves in search of the title.
Fundamental to obtaining this championship was the performance of Base Ortega player Iván López, since this element was dispatched with 18 units, which catapulted his team to obtain the crown.
For his part, it should not be forgotten that, defending the colors of San Juan del Río, player Iván Graciano shone on the court, who collaborated with 12 units in what was the grand finale of this basketball event.
The players who throughout the season and until winning the championship, defended the colors of Base Ortega, are the following: Dan López, Carlos Madera, Gerardo Soria López, Iván López, Jesús Barraza, Martin Marín, Manuel Soria López, Miguel Martínez and Gustavo Crispín, all of them directed by their coach Raúl López and his assistant Cesar Madera.
At the end of the great battle for the title, he was the president of the Night Basketball League of the “Prof. Manuel Galindo Higuera, LEF Marco Antonio Ramírez Madera, who awarded the best of the season in the following order:
Champion: Base Ortega.
Sub Champion: San Juan del Rio.
Canastero Champion: Iván Graciano.
