Sydney McLaughlin, world champion over 400 meters hurdles, is looking for new challenges. About Marita Koch’s old record over 400 meters flat. Doing so arouses suspicion.

Dhe American audience cheered the world record set by Sydney McLaughlin when winning the World Championships in Eugene, Oregon: 50.68 seconds. A woman’s first run in the 400-meter hurdles in less than 51 seconds. There was no irony when defeated Dalilah Muhammad, past Olympic and world champion, predicted that the new Olympic and world champion would be able to break the best time under 50 seconds.

Muhammad improved the world record twice three years ago. Alongside McLaughlin, she is the only athlete to have beaten 52 seconds in this discipline: at the Tokyo Olympics when she finished second. Sydney McLaughlin, however, has taken over the dominance of the discipline, beating the world record by a total of 1.48 seconds over four runs. One and a half seconds. Half of it, 73 hundredths of a second, you get on Friday evening. It’s even faster, she said.
