It should be noted that the sidereal pitching struck out 20 batters on Sunday, for a total of 48 in 27 innings of work during the series; thus becoming the first team in history to prescribe at least 48 opponents in a three-game series, without any of the three going into extra innings.

Previously the Astros themselves (a couple of times in 2016), Dodgers (2017), Red Sox and Rays (2019) and Cincinnati Reds in 2022, had prescribed more than 48 sluggers in three-game series, but having worked more than 27 episodes; that is, with at least one commitment that went to extra innings. Likewise, of the seven teams that have achieved the feat, only two have been able to sweep their series; when it comes to these Astros who dispatched the Angels, and those of 2016; who did the same against the Baltimore Orioles from May 24 to 26 of that season.

Latinos resonated

Latin America was on the rise throughout the series, as three pitchers of that ancestry led the way to make Houston’s success possible. It’s about the Dominicans Christian Xavier, Framber Valdez and the Mexican José Urquidy; who combined for 35 strikeouts, six hits and four runs allowed in 19 innings of action. In other words, they accumulated 73% of the team’s strikeouts in the series.

Similarly, the Latino bats from Houston were also present in the series, since the Creole José Altuve, the Dominican Jeremy Peña (2), the Cuban Yuli Gurriel and the Puerto Rican Martín Maldonado (2), combined to hit six home runs and trailing eight hairlines in the entire series.
