Anthony Edwards shouldn’t be able to sign for super max

Yesterday the Wolves shook the NBA with the announcement of the trade of Rudy Gobert to the Minnesota Timberwolves. They will line up a 5 which has a mouthful around the Gobert trio, Karl-Anthony Towns et Anthony Edwards.

What you need to know, and which is still important for the future, is that this move will have a direct consequence on Anthony Edwards and his next contract. Indeed, the back, who confirmed his status as the 1st pick of the draft last season, will be eligible to sign an extension during the next offseason. But as Bobby Marks reminds us, if Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns are still there, he will not be able to sign for the super max to which he no doubt aspires.

Indeed, a team cannot have in its workforce more than two players at the super max, which are Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, who yesterday extended to the super max.

This is an element which is not negligible and which we will perhaps discuss again in a year.
