Olot has dressed up to host Barça in the Centenary match. Football, of course, has been important, with a more disputed match than expected where Olot surprised Xavi’s team by drawing (1-1). The fans, however, have been the protagonist of the day. 3,300 Garrotxins (and some more who watched him climb the walls of the stadium) did not stop singing and cheering at any time, neither before nor after the match.
As for football, as expected, it was Barça who set the pace for the game. Pablo Torre showed quality and Kessie arrived to assist Aubameyang in Barça’s first two dangerous arrivals, which only Batalla and the post avoided. However, in the third he was defeated by a lethal Aubameyang against him. Ter Stegen has seen his unmarked and the Gabonese has stung him on Battle, defeated by a bad start. But Olot, spurred on by the fans, did not give up. He was about to sing the equalizer shortly before half-time after Carles Mas combed the ball to the post, and the goal came from eleven meters, when Eloi Amagat beat Ter Stegen on a penalty kick by Mika Mármol.
The second half took to the field Pedri and Ansu, who put on the captain’s armband. In the first quarter of an hour where Olot was dangerous on the counterattack, Àlex Valle had the clearest, sending the ball to the post. Aranda also tried it with a long shot. Faced with a more dull game, the fans, in addition to celebrating the return of Blázquez, have entertained themselves by making the wave and trying to make the grandstand and Joan Laporta jump. Towards the end, Pedri was about to overtake Barça twice, but a ball to the post of Eric Vilanova in the 88th minute was about to drive a blunder that, for a few moments, was the winner.
The teams also had a moment of remembrance for the father of the technical director of Olot, Sergi Raset, who died recently, and for whom a minute of silence was observed.
