Alejandro Galán reinforces the painting of the Leyma

The Leyma announced yesterday the signing of Alejandro Galán, a movement with which the orange club takes over the services of one of the young national players with the greatest projection of the LEB Oro. The power forward, 2.07 meters and 22 years old, arrives from from Alicante, a team with which he rose from the LEB Plata to the second national category, being one of the MVPs. The following two seasons in the Valencian team he had a great progression, which made him earn a place in the ACB at the hands of Bilbao Basket. His few minutes and opportunities sent him back to Alicante, where he returned last February.

“He is a young player, with projection and who stands out for his high level of energy both in defense and attack, intelligent and with a good reading of the game without the ball. His ability to finish close to the basket and his instinct and intuition for rebounding make him a very interesting player for the Leyma 2022-23 project”, informs the club, which welcomes him and hopes that the orange fans can enjoy him in the matches at the Riazor Sports Palace.

The player, born in Calamonte (Badajoz) in 1999, also has international honors in the lower categories of the Spanish team, with which he was proclaimed runner-up in Europe under 20. In fact, last week he was concentrated with the national team under 22 His quality caught the attention, when he was 13 years old, of one of the best Spanish academies, Joventut, and he debuted in LEB Oro with his subsidiary, El Prat, when he was just 17 years old. He also played in Plata with Plasencia and later he landed in Alicante.

The orange team is taking shape. Diego Epifanio already has point guard Álex Hernández (although he is still in the process of recovering from his knee injury) and center Atoumane Diagne from last season and with the additions of Olle Lundqvist and Alejandro Galán. According to the words of the new orange coach in his presentation, the squad will be short, with only ten members, and will be completed with two base players who are still in training.

The Galicia Cup, in September

Ourense will be the scene of an attractive Galicia Cup in September in which Leyma will participate together with two ACB teams such as Breogán and Obradoiro, and COB Ourense, which returns this season to the LEB Oro. The competition will be presented today at the city of As Burgas and the draw for the qualifying rounds will also take place. For the oranges it will be a good pre-season test, but taking into account that they plan to start training on September 1, perhaps a high-level duel against a higher category team could come too soon. The objective is to arrive in the best possible shape and with the team as united as possible on October 7, when the people from Coruña will start the competition with a visit to Azpeitia to face Juaristi. Leyma has a Galicia Cup title under its belt. He won it in 1996, just the first edition of this competition. Last year it had a different format, with the ACB teams on one side and the LEB on the other. The then pupils of Sergio García won COB Ourense 84-73, with Ashley Hamilton as the MVP of the match and with Zach Monaghan lifting the cup as captain.
