a life story that marked him from the age of 24

Raúl Oro is an athlete from the Sports Secretariat and is part of the “Adapted Sports” program of the Directorate of Educational and Inclusive Policies, where he practices basketball in a wheelchair.

Born on May 13, 1964, when he was 24 years old he suffered a serious accident while working in a business in Calingasta. After receiving a strong electrical shock, Oro had to be transferred by helicopter to Rawson Hospital, where he received first aid.

With 65% of his body burned by the shock received, Raúl was transferred to Mendoza, where he remained hospitalized for 53 days in intensive care and entered the operating room eight times, where they had to amputate his left leg above the knee and half of his right foot.

That hard event did not prevent Oro from continuing “I have three children, three grandchildren and three grandchildren of the heart. I am currently 58 years old and I am president of a retirement center. I keep trying to do many activities so as not to have any depression, ”said Raúl, who proudly highlighted the fundamental support of his wife, who has always accompanied him.

Raúl said that sport, more precisely basketball, came into his life the same year of his accident, when he was 24 years old. Since 2017 he began to be part of the adapted basketball of the “Adapted Sport” program of the Secretary of State for Sports promoted through the Directorate of Educational and Inclusive Policies.

Oro was part of the promotion in 2019 to the Second Category of the National League with the team from San Juan Prodea that this year had its debut, being protagonists in the first two dates and already classified to the round of 16 as the best first of the group.
