Düsseldorf’s impressive home strength will also come into play against Paderborn

The 2nd league has a new table leader for the time being. Fortuna Düsseldorf took the lead by beating SC Paderborn. The Rhinelanders have been unbeaten in their own stadium for six months now. Darmstadt could also celebrate in the duel against Sandhausen.

Fortuna Düsseldorf continued the series of successes in front of their own audience and pushed SC Paderborn off the top of the table in the 2nd division. After the 2-1 win at 1. Darmstadt 98 celebrated their first win in the second game of the season. “We have corrected the unfortunate start to the season and are of course happy about it. It doesn’t get any better than that,” said Darmstadt striker Manu and gave the motto: “We want to build on the impressive previous season. That’s why we have to keep working now and not rest on our laurels.”

The home side set the tone from the start. Manu used the second good opportunity with a shot from the left side of the penalty area into the top right corner for an early lead. In the middle of the first half, Zhirov scored a surprising equalizer for the Palatinate from a free kick with a well-placed shot in the right corner.

Before the break, the more active Darmstadt players were lucky that a shot by Janik Bachmann (38th) from six meters was too unplaced. After the change, Mehlem put the Hessians back in the lead after a remarkable one-two with Manu. In the last half hour, the game became more divided.
