Yes, are we in the 90s?! – Lakers sign Pippen and O’Neal – US Sport

The return of the greats…

Last night was the draft in the NBA. But even after that, the clubs fished a number of players.

The Hammer: The Lakers get Pippen and O’Neal!

I beg your pardon? Are we back in the 90s?

Nearly. Because the cult club has signed the sons of NBA legends Shaquille O’Neal (50) and Scottie Pippen (56). This is reported by various US media.

Accordingly, Shareef O’Neal (22) signed a contract with the Lakers for the Summer League. Scotty Pippen Jr. (21) is said to have even gotten a two-way contract. That would mean he can play for both the Lakers in the NBA and the South Bay Lakers in the G-League.

Unlike his father (2.03 meters), Pippen Jr. is rather short at 1.91 meters and is mostly used as a playmaker on the field. He had also signed up for the draft but was not selected by either team.

O’Neal had been in a Lakers workout prior to the draft but didn’t tell his famous father: “I’m not going to lie, we haven’t talked about it. He wanted me to stay in school, but I want to bet on myself. We’re both grown, we’ll get through this.”

This is how the NBA draft went

The Orlando Magic somewhat surprisingly opted for a forward as Franz Wagner’s new teammate. The team that selected the Berliner in eighth place last year picked Paolo Banchero (19) from Duke University. However, he only studied there for a year and should now help the young team in Florida to become a title candidate in the best basketball league in the world in the medium term. “I can’t believe what just happened, honestly,” Banchero told ESPN.

In the past few days, experts had expected the Magic to choose either Jabari Smith Jr. (19) or Chet Holmgren (20). Holmgren was picked second by the Oklahoma City Thunder, Smith was picked third by the Houston Rockets, where international Dennis Schröder (28) played at the end of last season. His future is open.

In the NBA draft, teams take turns picking the rights to a junior player. The worst teams from the previous season are allowed to start, but teams can swap positions with each other.
