While the World Cup is associated with celebration for the entire planet, for Qatar it is not the same atmosphere. According to the English media, it will be forbidden to have sexual relations, outside marriage, during the tournament which begins on November 21.

Illegal in Qatar, these sexual relations are punishable by imprisonment, up to 7 years. A police source reportedly told the English media that “sex was not on the agenda unless you are coming as a couple. There will definitely be no one-night stands at this tournament. There will be no parties at all , really. Everyone has to keep a cool head unless they want to risk ending up in jail. For the first time in the history of the World Cup, sex is banned. Fans have to be prepared.”

A few weeks ago, the tone was already set by the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani. “We welcome everyone, but we also expect and want people to respect our culture.” Afterwards, the emir still welcomed all visitors during the World Cup. “We don’t prevent anyone from coming to Doha with different origins, different beliefs, Qatar is a very welcoming country. We have millions of people coming to visit our country and the World Cup is a great opportunity for people. from different parts of the world to come and experience our culture.”

As a reminder, homosexuality is illegal in Qatar. The consumption of alcohol is also prohibited.
