Women’s football championship: Almuth Schult flies out of the DFB goal – football

► She is the only German who has attended every major tournament since the 2011 home World Cup.

► After giving birth to her twins in April 2020, she is back in top form.

► And every fan knows her since her strong analyzes as an ARD expert.

But before the women’s European Championship in England (from July 6th), Almuth Schult (31) has to deal with a setback: she flies out of the DFB goal!

National coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg (54/small photo) made Frankfurt’s Merle Frohms (27) No. 1 because she did a really good job during Schult’s baby break.

Schult: “I found out at short notice and wasn’t prepared for it. But I knew it could happen. The trend was always that way.”

You can tell the goalkeeper (64 caps) is struggling with the decision. Mainly because her pregnancy is a reason for her demotion.

Schult: “The justification hurts me. But that’s the sport. Not everything can be planned. Sometimes you have to accept things.”

And further: “I would have loved to play. It was always the goal to play another international match as a mother. I would find that very special.”

But Schult never thought of canceling the European Championship: “It’s not about having your own pride, it’s about being proud to be able to play for your country.”

The native of Wolfsburg, who will move to Angel City Los Angeles in the USA after the tournament, has not completely given up on her goal: “You never know what will happen during a tournament. I go into the tournament to make my best possible contribution to the structure of the team.”
