Nobody hits the point hammer harder than Golubic
“I find the decision totally ridiculous”
Viktorija Golubic loses 41 places after Wimbledon – more than anyone in the top 100. As is well known, she cannot defend the points from her quarter-final participation in 2021. She has a clear opinion on the decision.

She is the only remaining Swiss in the Wimbledon tableau. Viktorija Golubic (WTA 58) has mastered the starting hurdle Andrea Petkovic (WTA 57) and will meet Barbora Krejcikova (WTA 14) in the coming round. Last year, the Zurich native made it to the quarter-finals.
These valuable points will be lost to her in a week and a half. As is well known, she cannot defend Golubic. It will suddenly drop 41 places in the ranking and find itself in 99th place. No one in the top 100 loses more places than the 29-year-old!
“It’s very, very bitter. Above all, that this happens at a Grand Slam, »says Golubic after her start win. The measure has been much discussed. Many players complained about the lack of communication. They were not involved in the decision. “So much has happened politically in the last two years that you’re like a puppet. You try to focus on what is in your own power.”
WTA and ATP begins
Golubic can understand and approve of the fact that no points are awarded. “The WTA and ATP stood up for the minority because it’s not fair that the Russians and Belarusians can’t play.”
What is a thorn in her side, however, is that last year’s points cannot be retained. “On the other hand, I find it totally ridiculous in this decision that you are going along with the majority here. It wouldn’t have bothered anyone if the ranking had been frozen.”
But Golubic doesn’t want to get upset anymore, concentrating on the here and now. She can’t change anything anymore. Even without points, Wimbledon does not lose its importance for them. “I don’t come here thinking it doesn’t matter if I lose.”
