Wimbledon: Enzo Couacaud is the only Frenchman to have emerged from the qualifications of the tournament

His perseverance eventually paid off. At his 17th attempt and eight years after his first try, Enzo Couacaud finally managed to get out of qualifying for a Grand Slam tournament on Thursday. The Frenchman, 207th player in the world, thus dominated the Bulgarian Dimitar Kuzmanov, 175th at the ATP, in four sets (6-2, 6-7, 6-3, 6-2) in 2h41 in Roehampton. He is the only survivor among the committed tricolors, women’s and men’s paintings. For the first time in his career, he will play the main draw at Wimbledon next week.

If Couacaud passed, Hugo Grenier suffered the law of Jack Sock in three sets (7-5, 7-5, 6-4) and 2h21 of play. On the side of these ladies, the last three French chances have stumbled on the last step: Léolia Jeanjean against the Polish Katarzyna Kawa (7-5, 6-2), Fiona Ferro against the American Emina Bektas (6-4, 6-4) and Jessika Ponchet beaten by the Australian Jaimee Fourlis (6-4, 6-4).
