Wimbledon 2022 – Quentin Halys defeated by Nikoloz Basilashvili in the second round (7-6(7), 0-6, 7-5, 7-6(5))

Halys stopped short

This time, no start for Quentin Halys. After successfully overthrowing a troubled Benoit Paire on his debut in the London Grand Slam main draw, the Frenchman lost in the second round to 22nd seed Nikoloz Basilashvili. But he made life difficult for the Georgian, who needed 2h24 and 4 sets (7-6(7), 0-6, 7-5, 7-6(5)), to finally advance to the next round, where he is waiting to find out who of the Dutchman Van Rijthoven or the American Opelka will join him.

He thought he would do it again, but this Wednesday, the step was too high for Halys. As in the first round, the 82nd in the world, led by a set, had managed to come back, brilliantly moreover, by passing a 6-0 to his opponent. Except that this time, it was he who ended up giving in. Despite his 24 aces and 87% of points won behind his first serve, he saw his opponent show remarkable composure to break at the best time.

At 6-5 in his favor in the 3rd act, Basilashvili managed to take his opponent’s serve to lead 2 sets to 1, before finally making the difference in the tie break of the 4th set. Enough to allow him to find the 3rd round at Wimbledon for the first time since 2015.

Parry, comeback in the third round

After her fine run at the Porte d’Auteuil, where she was stopped in the third round by Sloane Stephens a month ago, Diane Parry is back in the round of 16 at Wimbledon, after her logical victory against the Japanese Mai Hontama, in two sets (6-3, 6-2) in 1h36. But what turnarounds in the first set!

Broken first, the tricolor, 77th in the WTA rankings, ended up taking the serve of her opponent three times, then waited for her third opportunity to pocket the first set. The second set was then one-sided, with Parry winning 5 games in a row to continue on her way to her first Wimbledon. Her next match should prove to be much more complex, since she should cross paths with the number 3 seed, Ons Jabeur.
