USA: Basketball talent (21) Darius Lee shot in New York – US sports

Terrible news from the USA!

Basketball talent Darius Lee (21) was shot dead at an event in New York on Monday. This was confirmed by Houston Baptist University, where he studied.

As “TMZ Sports” reports, citing the New York police, there was a shootout at a barbecue party in Harlem, a neighborhood in the New York borough of Manhattan, on Monday around 12:40 p.m.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found nine people with gunshot wounds – seven men and two women. Including Lee.

Lee was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital after being hit in the chest by a projectile. He was pronounced dead at the hospital a short time later, police said.

A firearm was found at the scene, police said. Further details of the incident are not known, the investigation is still ongoing.

Houston Baptist officials mourned the death of Lee on Monday. Ron Cottrell (61), men’s basketball team head coach: “We are in shock and cannot believe this news. My heart breaks for his mother, his sister and his entire family and for our basketball team. The only thing that brings us comfort right now is knowing where Darius is. He is in the arms of Jesus… we know that for a fact. And we will see him again one day.”

And further: “Not only was he a great basketball player, he was an even better person. I can’t even think about basketball right now. I can only think of what a light Darius was during his short time on earth. It was a pleasure to coach him and we loved him so much.”

Lee was the Houston Baptist’s top player last season averaging 18.2 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, giving him a very good chance of a move to the NBA. Lee could have signed up for the draft next year.

Slated to graduate in December, he was recently named Athlete of the Year at his university.
