The rector of the University of Seville, Miguel Ángel Castro, has received the athletes who have competed in US teams in the Andalusian and Spanish Championships, having managed to place the institution in the fifth place of the Spanish public universities after harvesting 26 medals.
The act, held in the Paraninfo of the US, has been a public acknowledgment of the effort and sporting merit and a thank you for taking the University of Seville to the top positions in the different University Championships.
In this 2021-22 academic year, regained sports activity after the suspension of the competitions during the two previous courses due to the pandemic. The University of Seville has attended these championships with a notable success in terms of participation and results.
concretely, 137 student-athletes (74 boys and 63 girls) have participated in 14 sports modalities of the 22 summoned. In 10 of these modalities, the University of Seville has risen to the podium to reach a total of 26 medals, which has meant placing it in 5th place in the ranking of public universities: 16 medals in men’s individual sports, 7 women’s individual medals, and 3 team medals.
In the case of team sports, there is still the challenge of participating in the European University Championshipswhere the men’s basketball team of the University of Seville will go to the city of Lodz (Poland) in July as a representative of the Spanish Universities after being champion in 2021 of the Spanish Championship.
Miguel Ángel Castro congratulated the athletes and has assured that the results are “the fruit of your effort and tenacity, reconciling sports practice with your respective studies”, while thanking them for “defending your university”.
It is worth noting the positive evolution of women’s sports in the USwhose protagonists have played a season in which they have practically won a medal in all modalities, by teams or individuals.
The rector has extended congratulations to the coaches of the teams, as well as all the personnel of the Service of Sports Activities of the US.
