Erik ten Hag wants to seriously work on the arrival of Christian Eriksen, reports the Athletic† The Brentford midfielder is considering a first offer from Manchester United. Eriksen can be added on a free transfer, as he runs out of his contract at the end of the month. The Danish midfielder signed with Brentford, who finished as number thirteen, last winter, which, partly due to his arrival, maintained himself quite simply. Interest has increased in recent weeks.

Eriksen has made a strong comeback from his heart problem in England and seems to be ready for a step higher. Nevertheless, at Brentford there is hope for a longer stay of the playmaker. “I would have liked to say it was 100 per cent certain, but I am convinced there is a good chance that he will wear the Brentford shirt again next season,” said manager and compatriot Thomas Frank. The Bees hope the connection between the two Danes is the deciding factor for a longer stay at the Brentford Community Stadium.

The Athletic however, considers it more likely that the midfielder’s future lies elsewhere. Last month Eriksen also indicated that he was considering various options. For example, the former Ajax player indicated that he would like to play in the Champions League again. Before coming to Brentford, Eriksen trained with the reserves of Ajax, the club he served between 2010 and 2013. Now it could still come to a collaboration between Ten Hag and Eriksen, as Manchester United has made the right leg a first offer.

Eriksen made eleven games in the Premier League on behalf of Brentford last season, ten of which as a starting player. He scored once and provided four assists. After his cardiac arrest at the European Championship, Eriksen was no longer allowed to play in Italy and his contract with Internazionale was dissolved. Several clubs showed interest, with Brentford drawing the longest straw. In West London Eriksen ended up in a Danish enclave. In addition to manager Thomas Frank, Jonas Lössl, Mads Bech Sørensen, Mathias Jørgensen, Mads Roerslev, Mathias Jensen and Christian Nørgaard are also under contract.

In addition to the interest in Eriksen, Frenkie de Jong is still a top priority to strengthen the midfield. With the departure of, among others, Paul Pogba and Nemanja Matic, Ten Hag benefits from new quality impulses. For that reason, Donny van de Beek can once again count on a fierce competition. Reported a few weeks ago Daily Mirror already that there was interest from United in Eriksen. That news has now been confirmed with a first offer. United will not be in the Champions League next season. The Mancunians finished sixth and thus reach the group stage of the Europa League.
