“There are plenty of reasons” in Barbastro to celebrate San Ramón

The traditional bonfires on the night of June 20, the eve of the festivity of San Ramón, patron saint of the Diocese and of Barbastro since 1595 at the initiative of Bishop Miguel Cercito (1586-1595), reflect the return to normality after two years forced parentheses and therefore “There are plenty of reasons to celebrate the Fiestas de San Ramón” as highlighted this Wednesday by Mayor Fernando Torres who shared the first press conference with Jesús Garcés, new president of the Celebration Area.

Both have valued the collaboration of associations, neighborhoods and local entities, including the Brotherhood of San Ramón, to organize the program of activities from June 9 to 26, to link with the Polifonik Sound Festival on July 2 and 3. Torres and Garcés thanked Pilar Abad for her previous work in two previous years where it was not possible to hold street events and they also highlighted the work of the technicians so that it would be possible in 2022.

The first activities will be held this Saturday with the start of the Barbastro Rallythe 12-Hour Football-7 Tournament at the Municipal Sports Field, the Badminton Tournament at the Ángel Orús Sports Center and the City of Barbastro Choral Encounter “Music for the summer”, in the Plaza de la Catedral, with the participation of the Choir Itaca (Zaragoza), the “Voice of the People” Polyphonic Choir from Guarnizo (Cantabria) and the Barbitanya Choir (Barbastro).

Starting on Sunday, sports activities, end-of-course auditions, Chess Tournament, End-of-course Festival, Somontano Folkloric Association School, dance session for the Third Age group. Masses in San Ramón and the cathedral, burning of bonfires, Ronda de Jotas, concert by Electroduendes -a novelty incorporated into the Program- pilgrimage, Ronda de Los Gaiteros del Somontano.

They are completed with theater by La Meliguera with the premiere of the play “Maribel and the strange family”, Music Festival, final course concert of the Municipal School of Music and Dance, Final Course Festival of the José Luis Folklore School Lopez. On June 23 and 24, parties in the San Juan neighborhood and from June 16 to 26, Barbastro International Jazz Festival.
