The increase in the number of COVID-19 cases continues in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean

This is shown by the data now published weekly by the National Institute of Public Health of Quebec (INSPQ).

Since the last update last Wednesday, 232 new cases have been confirmed by PCR test in the region, for an average of 33 per day. Last week, the average was 23.

The lowest number was reached in the week of June 8 with an average of 15 new cases per day.

This is, however, a far lower number than the situation experienced in March and April, when there were sometimes up to 160 new cases a day among priority groups who have access to laboratory tests.

As for hospitalizations, they are still at 20, which has been more or less stable since June 6.

One death related to COVID-19 has been added in the past week.

During the last week, 817 doses of vaccine against COVID-19 were administered in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean.

According to the national director of public health of Quebec, Dr. Luc Boileau, the rise in cases in Quebec is mainly explained by the presence of new variants.

However, he expects the contagion to begin to slow over the next few days or weeks.
