the building permit application for the future stadium was signed on Friday

The project for the future “ZebrArena” will take an important new turn in the weeks to come. Indeed, it was this Friday morning that Mehdi Bayat signed the building permit application for the future Sporting de Charleroi stadium with the “Carré 7” architecture studio based in La Louvière and part of the team around the “Mariotti & Associés” agency, responsible for the project. Mehdi Bayat also declared in front of the club’s business partners to be “proud and moved”, still this Friday.

This is indeed an important step since the permit application will now be submitted this very Friday to Raphaël Stokis, the delegated official of the Walloon Region, who will have to return to Sporting within 130 days in order to validate the project. final. This period may however be suspended during the procedure for various parallel administrative procedures.

At the same time, the depollution of the site – already started for some time – will experience an acceleration in order to allow the start of the construction of the stadium and its direct surroundings once the project has been validated. While registration number 22 is widely supported in Charleroi, there is no reason for this project to be thwarted, even if some residents were worried about the planned lack of parking.

Initially expected for 2024, the future Sporting de Charleroi stadium should finally be operational in 2025, as Mehdi Bayat has already mentioned recently. This is an inevitable consequence of the Covid crisis, which did not allow progress to be made as easily as expected. While Sporting will want to start a new season in its enclosure, it is at the start of the 2025-2026 season that Charleroi hopes to be comfortably installed in its future nest. In the meantime, the club will probably cut its teeth on the occasion of a gala match and by already organizing certain concerts or shows there since the future enclosure of the Zebras will be, as we recall, multifunctional.
