Tennis: Wimbledon breaks with two mega traditions – sports mix

Wimbledon abolishes two traditions!

The biggest tournament in the tennis world will waive two rules that have been laid down so far in the upcoming edition, which starts on Monday.

For the first time, the London grass pitches will also be played on the Sunday of the first week of the tournament. So far, the so-called “Middle Sunday” had been a day without a game and was only used if the game had been postponed during the week.

This should relieve the “Maniac Monday”. In previous tournaments, all of the men’s and women’s round of 16 games were played on the Monday after the non-playing Sunday.

With the additional match day, more fans can also visit the stadiums at the Wimbledon facility – which also means more income for the organizers.

In addition to the abolition of the free Sunday, selected players will also be able to train on the legendary Center Court this year in order to get used to the court.

This is to reduce the risk of injury. A year ago, Serena Williams (40) was injured in the first round on Center Court when she slipped.
