“I’m much more relaxed with the boys”

The tennis superstar does not simply find the mobile phone question: “Finding the right balance is challenging for both the girls and us parents.” To make matters worse, neither he nor his wife Mirka (44) can draw on their own experiences, since “in our time there were no cell phones”.

And what about the twin sons with cell phones? “You are still too young,” said Federer. But in general, when it comes to raising boys, he is more relaxed than with girls: “Why did we warn the girls not to put their fingers in the fire! I’m much more relaxed with the boys now: I assume that they won’t do it of their own accord.” And if they did, they would quickly realize that it hurts.
Now that the girls are in their teens, will they still travel to tournaments when their daddy makes his comeback? “A problem that I would really like to have,” admits the 20-time Grand Slam champion: “Because that would mean that everything is going well with the knee and the comeback.” In addition, he will “no longer play 20 tournaments a year”, which is why the program will be much more manageable.
He’s planning that with Mirka
His children will therefore be present at some tournaments, but not at others. The destination is also important. “I know that my children would be happy to see certain places again. Be it London or Miami.”
He probably doesn’t know how long Federer wants to play and if he does, he won’t reveal it. But when the time comes, what does a world star like Federer look forward to? “Of course to go skiing.” But not only: “Maybe I’ll go golfing again.
