Federico Delbonis (85th in the ATP ranking) was eliminated in the first round of the APT 250 of Mallorca with the defeat against the Swiss Antoine Bellier (303rd) by 6-3 and 7-6 (6). The Spanish contest, which is played on grass, distributes 951,745 euros in prizes and serves as preparation for Wimbledon.
The azuleño could not beat a rival who had come from qualifying and fell in just under two hours of play in what was the first confrontation between the two on the professional circuit. The other Argentine in the competition is Sebastian Baez (36th), who will debut tomorrow against the Australian Jordan Thompson (68º).
The maximum favorite of the contest is the Russian Daniil Medvedev (1st), classified directly to the second round: his presentation will be against his compatriot Aslan Karatsev (43rd). The objective is to reach the third Grand Slam of the season in the best possible way, which will start next Monday.
