Tec Monterrey León’s participation in 8 Grandes ends – El Sol de León

Leon, Guanajuato.- Debut and Farewell for the quintet of the Tecnológico de Monterrey Campus León that concluded its participation in the ‘Big 8’ of the ABE League, the Borregos fell 84-58 against Eagles UPAEP.

For the first time, ITESM Campus León managed to qualify for the ‘Big 8’, the name given to the final phase of the ABE University Basketball League. For the Leonese representative, the search for the men’s Division I title ended in the debut match of the quarterfinals.

From the first period the quintet directed by the coach Alfredo Especiano was seen with the balance against leaving figures of 20-11 in the first period, the UPAEP was accurate with distance shots leaving the advantage at 35-26 at half time.

León suffered an emotional setback when he lost Santiago Pérez, captain and one of his best men on the court, an ankle injury forced him to dispense with the player. The Borregos put up a fight leaving the third round at 59-41. The Pueblans swept the fourth quarter, reaching a 25-point lead over the Leonese. The final board was 84-58.

With this contest, the first incursion achieved by Tec León in the ‘Big 8’ concluded. On the other hand, Enrique Solís was the best player for Borregos with 12 points, followed by Andrés Serrato with 12, while José Cruz and Raúl Olea led the UPAEP with 26 and 18 points, respectively.

In the results of the day, CEU Monterrey defeated Universidad Interamericana 75-72, Tec de Monterrey defeated Universidad Panamericana CDMX 67-60, while Tec Mty Guadalajara won 61-65 over Tec Mty Hidalgo.

For this Friday the semifinals are played, UPAEP faces Tec de Monterrey, while Tec Mty Guadalajara will face off against CEU Monterrey. The grand final and third place will be played on June 26.
