Taufik Hidayat mention Viktor Axelsen as the best men’s singles badminton at this time. Taufik praises him because Axelsen is so consistent and has character!
Taufik Hidayat is a guest star on The Badminton Experience podcast. This is the podcast of the Danish badminton players, Anders Antonsen and Hans-Kristian Solberg Vittinghus who often talk with the world’s top badminton players.
In the 49-minute show, Antonsen and Hans repeated many flashbacks of Taufik Hidayat’s golden stories. No doubt, Taufik has won a series of titles and became a world badminton legend.
Talking about the men’s singles, Hans asked Taufik Hidayat, who is the best men’s singles today and is there a difference in the style of the men’s singles now with Taufik’s era?
“The game has changed but the character remains the same. In the past, the winner might be boring and that’s all, but now anyone can beat each other,” he explained.
“Momota has character but then he is inconsistent. He was okay, then he got injured. Top players have to be consistent, like Axelsen since the Olympics yesterday until now,” he explained.

Talking about Viktor Axelsen, who is a badminton player from Denmark and currently ranked first in the world, Antonsen continued. He asked whether Axelsen deserved to be equal to Taufik Hidayat, Peter Gade, and Lin Dan?
“He can beat me, Lee Chong Wei, Peter Gade. He has a chance,” replied Taufik Hidayat.
“He could have won the next Olympics like Lin Dan did (twice won gold). It’s not easy,” he concluded.
